Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic and innovative DevOps Engineer to join our team. This role demands a high level of technical knowledge, leadership skills, and the ability to communicate the state of our infrastructure externally. Furthermore, it’s crucial that you share and uphold our core values and mission in your everyday professional activities. As a critical member of our team, you will drive our continuous integration and deployment efforts, while ensuring that our infrastructure status is transparent and effectively conveyed externally.

This is a remote position. Given the global nature of the project, we require flexibility in accommodating various time zones outside of conventional business hours. In particular, our weekly and daily meetings are generally scheduled within the core hours of 7-11am UTC.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing, maintaining, and scaling OpenSSL’s core infrastructure.
  • Utilise automation tools to manage and monitor system configuration, security updates, and software deployments.
  • Ensuring system stability, security, and performance by implementing monitoring, preventive maintenance, and compliance.
  • Liaising with project developers to build secure and efficient CI/CD pipelines.
  • Researching and implementing new technologies to improve efficiency, responsiveness, and availability of our systems.
  • Developing and updating disaster recovery protocols and responsible for data backup and restore procedures.
  • Documenting systems, procedures, and protocols for internal use and community transparency.
  • Handling system-related inquiries and troubleshooting complex technical issues.

Requirements

  • Experience in system administration or a similar role.
  • Proficiency with Linux and Unix-based systems.
  • Good knowledge of scripting languages such as Bash, Python and Perl.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools.
  • Familiarity with network protocols and services.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal in English.

Preferred

  • Understanding of SSL/TLS and other security protocols.
  • Knowledge of OpenSSL
